曹小冬

1961年生于江苏连云港，1982年毕业于江南大学工业设计学院。85'新潮时期为江苏艺术群体《红色·旅》成员，1991年 策划创办《艺术潮流》杂志，1992年策划创办《文化与艺术论坛》丛书，早期作品为超现实主义风格油画，93年开始创作“点”抽象绘画，94年开始在绘画的同时从事观念摄影，2006年开始以点仿制老照片系列。现居住北京.

CAO Xiaodong

Born in 1961, graduated from Industry Design College,Jiangnan University in 1982.

Member of "Red·Trip", an art group in Jiang Su province during 1985's Art Currents.

Launched "Art Currents" magaznine in 1993.

Launched "Culture and Art Forum", a series of books in 1994.

Early works: Oil Painting.

Started painting "Dot" abtract works in 1993, and worked on Concept Photography in 1994 as well.

Staying in Beijing, engage in building up "Abstract(Chou) Office" at 798 Art District.Engaged in academic and communication activity about abstract art.

曹小冬的抽象作品早在十几年前就已经初具规模，在曹小冬的抽象作品中，西方材料和东方意境寻找到出人意料的契合点，仿制中国水墨笔触和将密集的点燃烧产生的痕迹，彻底取消了油画的笔触厚度和笔痕肌理，极简主义的框架里营造出中国古代山水画的气质，显现出内敛的力量，在油画材料和水墨意趣、传统文人情怀和当代逻辑中寻求着平衡与调和。

Cao Xiaodong's abstract works had reached a considerable achievement early in 1994. He is searching for unexpected matching points between western materials and estern ideas. He is imitating China's water-ink painting touchs with intensive burned dots and imprints. Ignoring traditional oil painting's feature of touch texture and thickness, he keeps the spirit of China's traditional sceneary paintings in a simplism framework. His works show striving balance and mixture between oil painting's material and China's water-ink painting's feeling, traditional intellectual heart and today's logic.
